Chapter 1 She's Back

"If the reunion is a gamble, I'd be willing to lose. If the reunion is an unavoidable moment of love at first sight, I am ready to fall. / Adler Gannon."

Mildred Winfred was sitting on the sofa at the corner of a spacious private room with a drink in her hand. However, her spirits were not high. As relaxed as she looked when she chatted with her college classmates with a smile, she was very nervous on the inside.

She was worried he'd turn up.

Still, she wanted him to.

Today was a reunion party of her college alumni. She had not wanted to go, but her best friend, Letricia Hayes, wore her out with relentless persuasion.

Letricia explained that she might find herself wishing for help in the future; therefore, it was best for her to go to the party just to be there now that she was back. It didn't hurt to socialize even if she didn't need any help.

Mildred felt she had a point and agreed to go.

However, the moment she went, she felt overwhelmed by panic.

She knew she was being ridiculous.

That was what she believed.

But she had no idea about the source of her anxiety.

Even if he showed up, that was none of her business.

Moreover, he probably wouldn't go to such a party. Letricia once commented, "Once we graduate, Adler would live in a whole different world than us. Therefore, he wouldn't attend such a party. Just rest assured."

She ought to be relieved, but still, she felt somewhat flustered.

She lowered her head and tried to hide the pain accumulating in her eyes as she drank her beverage. However, the moment she lowered her head, the door was pushed open, and three men with different styles walked in.

Although none of them were in a suit, they gave off a vibe that indicated their identity and confidence. One man, in particular, was more eye-catching.

Upon their arrival, people in the room burst out screaming. Henry Franklin, who organized the party, also joined in the excitement and pulled them into the center of the crowd by placing his arms on their shoulders.

Women scrambled to push their way over and surrounded Spencer Yates and Hudson Elrod. Only Adler Gannon was left out.

Adler was wearing a white shirt and black jeans. There was no emotion on his handsome face, but as he saw his two friends who had come with him get along well with their classmates, the corner of his lips also curled into a smile.

But the moment he saw the inconspicuous woman at the corner, he froze, and the smile was gone.

His black eyes constricted a few times before he forced himself to look away.

He lowered his eyes and, after a moment, bent down to pick up a can of drink and drank it.

While he was drinking, no one could see how big of a surprise was hidden in his unfathomable amber eyes, almost like a tsunami.

He told himself she was back.

He was shocked.

His grip on the can tightened and immediately loosened. Then he calmly placed the empty can on the table, lowered his head to fish out his phone, sat there, and played on his phone.

Henry organized the party because he was back from overseas and needed to work there.

He'd have to rely on these three classmates of his if he wanted to get ahead in Spydier City.

He was worried he might not get them to turn up if he had only invited the three of them, so he sent invitations to everyone.

The good thing was many people responded to his invitations positively. And most importantly, he'd got the three important figures to come.

While Spencer and Hudson were surrounded by a group of people, Henry poured two glasses of red wine and sat next to Adler.

Then he placed one on the table before Adler. It didn't matter whether Adler drank it because Henry had shown his courtesy.

Henry asked, "Why did you come here without your girlfriend? I heard that she's famous. Why didn't you bring her here to meet us?"

Although the three of them were treated like princes—due to their different positions in the company they worked for—in this private room, Henry was still their monitor.

Henry always cared a lot about his classmates' studies and love lives, and, of course, he was also a gossip.

After speaking, he glanced at a corner.

Mildred was sitting there.

Mildred started going out with Adler in her sophomore year and broke up with him two years later for some reason.

In Henry's opinion, their breakup somehow seemed to be destined because Adler didn't show much interest in his relationship with Mildred during their three years together.

Everyone remembered and believed that Adler agreed to be her boyfriend for so long because Mildred was a relentless woman. So they assumed he must have been fed up with her for a long time.

What eventually happened proved them right. Upon graduation, they broke up.

Hearing "girlfriend", Adler froze visibly. His grip on his phone also tightened, and his eyes were fixed on the screen that had long become dark.

Hearing what Henry said, his classmates immediately started echoing each other by demanding to see Adler's girlfriend.

Although Adler was not pretentious and appeared extremely unapproachable at school, he got along well with his classmates. It was probably because he was rich, good-looking, and never took anyone for granted.

Now that everyone was demanding it, he had no choice but to raise his head in the direction of the woman who had not since moved the moment he entered.

Everyone gathered over except her and her best friend.

Perhaps it was out of spite, or because he wanted to get on her nerves, Adler turned on his phone, unlocked it in public, and made a call.
